Season One, Summer 2007

Dinner on the Deck

This week we provide three easy recipes for a New England summer dinner made with local seafood and fresh produce. In Watch Hill, RI the strong Italian influence brings beautiful Mediterranean flavors to mix with southern New England ingredients. Explore your local farmers market this summer to find the best whole foods for your recipes.

Buying tomatoes from a local farm in Westerly, Rhode Island is one of the best things of summer. We encourage you to find a local farm stand or gardener, and get to know a summer vegetable really well. It is the best time to eat fruits and vegetables, as they are found in abundance.

COOKING SHOW

The best part of being a New Englander is eating all of the fresh local fish and seafood the summertime. This dish is a delicious every-day type of dinner. Fresh herbs, vegetables, and seafood combine beautifully in a light wine broth. Summer does not get much better than this!

COOKING SHOW

Blackberries and blueberries are so incredible when paired with sweet wines like Vin Santo, Port, and Muscat. The alcohol in this dessert slows down the freezing of the cream, allowing it to maintain a semi-soft consistency. Cantuccini add a great texture, so feel free to crumble up some of these Italian cookies and add them to the mix.
